Open Books, a nonprofit bookstore, literacy community
center and volunteer corps will hold a "Great American Book Drive" on Oct. 26 to collect unwanted books to benefit reading programs.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their River North location at 213 W. Institute Place in Chicago.
The Open Books organization describes it's mission as "raising awareness about
illiteracy, improving reading skills, and spreading the love of books
in Chicago and beyond".
Volunteers will be on hand to help unload books from your car and process donations. If you can't get to the event in person, Open Books, with the support of Zipcar, is sponsoring a limited number of pick ups. You can sign up for a pick up here and volunteers will come to your house on Oct. 26 to collect your unwanted books.
Kids and adult books in readable condition will be accepted. Any books unable to be reused, will be held for recycling.
You may also sign up to volunteer to help unload and sort books for the event here.
