The Illinois General Assembly has declared the month of June "No Child Left Inside" month to help promote outdoor recreation and nature education for children.
The resolution is based on the Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights, a national movement, and the No Child Left Inside initiative promoted by regional conservation alliance
Chicago Wilderness
The No Child Left Inside initiative and the Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights state that every child deserves to the right to: discover wilderness -- prairies, dunes, forests, savannas, and wetlands; camp under the stars; follow a trail; catch and release fish, frogs,and insects; climb a tree; explore nature in neighborhoods and cities;
celebrate heritage; plant a flower; play in the mud or a stream; and learn to
swim.
Illinois Senate sponsors of the resolution are Sen.Michael W. Frerichs (D-Champaign)
and Heather Steans (D-Chicago).
Illinois House sponsors are:
Rep. Monique D. Davis (D-Chicago), Emily
McAsey (D-Crest Hill), Elizabeth Coulson (R-Glenview), and Greg Harris
(D-Chicago).
Chicago Wilderness will be highlighting a host of nature activities and events for children through their member organizations and partners on their website this month.
