Experimental Station will begin offering a pilot program this summer at several Chicago Farmers Markets. In partnership with the The Mayor’s Office of Special
Events, the Chicago Department of Family and Support
Services, and the Department of Community Development, the program will allow those receiving LINK card benefits to purchase fresh local food at several neighborhood farmers markets.
EBT/LINK service will be available at the following markets on the following days of the week:
Tuesdays at Lincoln Square; Wednesdays at South
Shore Bank; Thursdays on Daley Plaza; Saturdays at Division Street; and
Sundays at the Beverly market.
The Electronic Benefits
Transfer or EBT/Link card is the
id card for recipients of the Federal Snap Benefits Food Stamp
Program offered throughout the State of Illinois to those who
qualify. The card may be swiped
through an EBT/Link machine much like a debit card.
Experimental Station is a not-for-profit "incubator of innovative cultural,
educational, and environmental projects and small-scale enterprises" and was established in 2002 in Hyde Park. It operates the 61st
Street Farmers Market where it is currently providing this service. Experimental Station will administer the program at each of the new sites.
